I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m an American psychotherapist who has been living in Asia for over a decade. Asia is my forever home.
I spent twelve years working in Hong Kong and am proud now to call Singapore my home. I work with adult individuals and couples virtually around the world.
My focus is on supporting you with relationship challenges.
Rethink the Couch is the crystallization of my professional beliefs and values. Doing therapy with over a thousand people with diverse backgrounds, in both clinical and private practice settings, has taught me that the traditional, “Diagnose and Apply Cookie Cutter Techniques” method does not work. It places way too much emphasis on assigning pre-cooked methods to “fix” people, ignores the possibilities of transformation, and positions people in a revolving door of therapy; too much talking, too little action, too few results.
The clients I work with want things fresh, creative, connected, and collaborative. I offer a platform for generating sustainable and valuable results while honoring your nuanced experiences. That’s the kind of therapy you’ll find at Rethink the Couch.
Please note that I donate 10% of my profits at Rethink the Couch to a wonderful organization in Hong Kong, The Mekong Club, run by the brilliant and tireless Matt Friedman. The Mekong Club works to end modern slavery in Asia, utilizing the private business sector.
In addition, I have launched and led various therapy groups including for male refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong; for men becoming fathers; and another for women experiencing postnatal depression and anxiety. They were the first of their kind in Hong Kong.
Background
I graduated summa cum laude from New York University (NYU), have a Master's also from NYU, and a second Master’s in Counselling from Monash University (Australia). I have completed various trainings at The Gottman Institute including: Level 1 & 2, Couples and Addiction Recovery, Making Marriages Work, Treating Affairs and Trauma.
I am the first Relational Life Therapy (RLT) certified therapist in Asia, a life changing therapy for couples who want to roll up their sleeves and expect sustainable changes. RLT was pioneered by bestselling author Terrence (Terry) Real, and I use RLT as the cornerstone for the work I do with couples. It's my greatest honor and joy as a therapist to work with couples using RLT.
In addition, I’m an ICF-certified coach and have completed extensive coach trainings such as GoMaster Coaching along with being the first in Asia to be certified as a Healthy Boundaries for Kind People coach, developed by Randi Buckley. I also have experience working with executives and leaders at multinational corporations.
Lastly, I’m the author of the book Rethink the Couch: Into the Bedrooms and Boardrooms of Asia with an Expat Therapy Therapist published by Penguin Random House.
